Hi! Welcome to our blog home. :)
We have begun our adoption journey to the Democratic Republic of Congo and want to use this blog to not only keep people updated on our adoption, but also on what is going on in other areas of our lives.
If you haven't heard, we will share a brief synopsis of how we got to where we are today...
In January of 2010 we began to feel the tug towards adoption and in April of 2010 we felt the Lord confirm this call. We didn't know when or from where, but we knew for sure He was saying to adopt!
Over the last year we have prayed, fasted, sought wisdom, spoken with friends/family, researched agencies, and pursued several different programs.
This past month, we feel strongly that now is the time and we have decided to move forward with adopting from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Here are some stats about the Congo...
- there are 5 million orphans in the Congo alone
- the UN says that the sexual violence against women and children is worse than anywhere in the world
- malaria kills 400 children a day
- the majority of the 70 million people in the congo live on less than $1 a day
We have been praying for a long time that we would live a life worthy of the calling we've received. (Eph 4) We want to constantly be asking God what HE desires of us and for our lives. Our passion is to follow Him and to make much of Him. Our hope is that we will make much of Him and He will be glorified through this adoption and through our family.
SO...our journey has "officially" begun. We have sent in our application, been approved for One World Adoption Services Congo program and we have almost completed our home study!
We are excited and nervous. But through our nerves we have been reading this verse remembering what God has for Africa and our child.
"The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance for our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion - to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a PLANTING of the LORD for the display of his splendor!" Isaiah 61:1-3
We are believing God to do what he promises in Is 61...that he, through us, will be the restorer, comforter and provider and that he will provide joy to our child whom we have yet to meet.
We would greatly appreciate prayers as we continue in this process of paper work, waiting, and all the emotional ups and downs of adoption!
